OBITUARY

James G. Hambleton was born Feb. 8, 1830 in Columbiana county, Ohio. When two years old his parents removed to New York, locating near Buffalo. Five years later they returned to Ohio.

He was married Sept. 2, 1854 to Jane Eliza Fenton, formerly of Bucks county, Pa. He enlisted in Company G, 88th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Oct.18, 1862 and was discharged July 3, 1865.

On the 4th of November, 1868 he and his family with his wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Fenton, started for Kansas. They landed at Kansas City, where they bought a wagon, having brought a team of mares with them. Mr. Hambleton located at Olathe, where he resided with his family nearly two years. In 1870 he came to Montgomery county with his family and located on a claim in Sycamore township. In 1890 he and his wife removed to Independence, where they resided until too feeble to take care of themselves and in 1909 they removed to the farm of their son, S. F. Hambleton, in Sycamore township, where Mrs. Hambleton died in 1913. Mr. Hambleton died Dec. 21, 1915.

To them were born seven children, three of whom are living, S. F. Hambleton, Sycamore; Minnie E. Jolly, Buena Vista, Texas, and Hannah J. Turpin, Wanconda, Washington.

He left to mourn him beside his three children, eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, besides other relatives and old friends, especially his friend, Wm. Gardner of South Fifteenth street, with whom he went to school in his early teens.
