DEATH OF JAMES M’GLINN.

  James McGlinn, aged 74 years, 2 months and 3 days died at his home in northern Altoona last Thursday morning at 11:20 o’clock.  His death resulted from consumption of which he had suffered more or less for twenty years.  Mr. McGlinn had been in critical condition for the past month although he was bedfast only two or three days before his death.  Funeral services were held at the home on Friday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by Elder Thos. Miller of the Christian church, who paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased.  Interment was made in the Altoona cemetery.

  The deceased was born in Cleveland, Ohio, August 19, 1836.  He enlisted and served three years in the Civil War.  Mr. McGlinn was married to Catharine Vanatta, September 27th 1868; to this union were born four children, Mrs. W. A. Swain, of Fredonia, Mrs. Chas. Goff, of this city, Will McGlinn, of Cherryvale, and John McGlinn, who died February 28th, 1905.  A wife, three children and nine grandchildren besides numerous other relatives and friends now mourn his loss.  Mr. Glinn was a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father and to his friends the soul of fellowship.  He was baptized in the Catholic church in early life and died in that faith.

  The deceased was widely known in this county, having resided here since 1877; the greater part of that time being spent on his farm east of Altoona, but for the past seven years he and his wife had resided at the home where he died.  During the many years of his illness Mr. McGlinn was always a patient sufferer and disease did not destroy the charm of a kind, indulgent disposition nor old age diminish his unselfish solicitude for his friends and loved ones.  While he had continued to enjoy the society of his friends and children, he had for several years, realized that his active life was over and with resignation awaited death’s call.

  The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of grief.
