John Makemson Who Died Last Night

Was a Lieutenant in Cavalry.

John Makemson, a well-known citizen of Labette county, living four miles north of Parsons died last night at 11 o’clock at the family home. Death was due to a complication of diseases, from which he had been a sufferer for many months. The funeral will be held from the Bethany church tomorrow afternoon at one o’clock and will be conducted by Rev. C. E. Pile. Internment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery.

John Makemson was one of the prominent citizens of this county and was an especially active member of the Bethany Christian church of which he was an elder. He moved here from Kentucky twelve years ago and in that time has made many friends all of whom will deeply regret his death but will be proud of the reputation which he has left to his children. He was a soldier in the Confederacy serving his full four years and at the close of the war was a second lieutenant of Company D, Second Kentucky Cavalry. He was 76 years old and leaves three children two of whom Mrs. Joe Hicks and C. T. Makemson live close to the home of their father, while the other child lives in Ashland, Ky. All of the children were present at the death of their father. Mr. Makemson is a brother of Mrs. Nancy Ewing and had a number of friends in Parsons where he came quite often.
