Obituary.

John H. Record was born in Dorchester county, Maryland, May 2, 1840. He died after an illness of two months at his home in Thayer, Kansas, November 15, 1915, at the age of 75 years, 6 months, and 13 days. When quite young he united with the Christian church and has since been a faithful member. At the age of 21 he entered in Company A, 1st Regiment, Eastern Shore, Maryland, and was a faithful worker in the cause of the Union.

He leaves a companion, twelve children and many other relatives and friends to mourn his death. Seven of the children were with him when he passed away: J. H., of Joplin, Mo.; Henry of Moline, Kans.; Frank of Osawatomie, Kans.; Charley, of Humboldt, Kans.; W. W. of Chanute, Kans.; Mrs. T. T. Compton, of Chanute, Kans., and Miss Grace of Thayer, Kans. The other children are T. T., of Portland, Ore.; Floyd, of Santa Barbara, Calif; Byron, of Los Angeles, Calif.; James, of Richmond, Calif., and Francis of Galveston, Texas.

The funeral services were held at Leanna, Kans., November 16, at 2 p.m. conducted by C. J. Saunders, assisted by E. A. Blackman, pastor of the Christian church at Chanute, Kans. Burial was in the Leanna cemetery. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”

He Came to This Vicinity From

Maryland in 1870-Leaves Widow

and Twelve Children.

Funeral services for John H. Record, who had been for nearly half a centruy a resident of this vicinity, were held yesterday in Leanna, east of the city. They were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Saunders of Humboldt, where Mr. Record lived until a few weeks ago when he moved to Thayer. Mr. Saunders was assisted by E. A. Blackman, pastor of the Chanute Christian church.

Mr. Record was 75 years old. He was born May 2, 1840, and died November 15. He fought for the union in the civil war, volunteering his services in a Maryland regiment in 1861. He came from Maryland to Kansas in 1870 and had lived in this vicinity ever since with the exception of winter before last, which he spent in California.

He leaves a widow and twelve children--ten sons and two daughters. Seven of his children were with him when the end came. They were: Henry Record of Moline, J. H. Record of Joplin, Mo., Charles Record of Humboldt, Frank Record of Osawatomie, Mrs. G. G. Compton of Chanute, Miss Grace Record of Thayer and Walter Record of Chanute.

Of the others who were unable to be here were F. E. Record of Mineral Wells, Tex., J. W. Record of San Francisco and T. T. Record of Roseburg, Ore., who had come to see their father because of his dangerous illness and had just returned home because of an improvement, which they hoped was permanent in his condition.

The other children are Byron Record of Los Angeles and Floyd Record of Santa Barbara, Cal.
