Obituary. 

  Joseph Buck was born April 23rd, 1836, in Crawford county, Pennsylvania, and departed this life January 15th, 1917.  He was next to the eldest of five children whose parents were Peter and Polly (Gable) Buck.

  He remained at home until seventeen years of age, when he started out in life for himself.  He spent five years in Chicago carpentering, from there he went to Pike’s Peak where he remained one year; then to Leavenworth, Kans., where he worked until the fall of 1862.  On the 25th of Sept., 1862, he enlisted in Co. F, 103 Ill. Infantry, in which he served almost three years.  He was wounded in the battle of Missionary Ridge and was allowed a furlough of ninety days.  At the close of the time he rejoined his regiment and served to the close of the war.

  One (sic) the 9th of Jan., 1868, he married Mary C. McGrew, of Illinois who died four years later.  To this union were born two children, one dying in infancy and one Carrie A. Angle still living.

  He was again married on March 12, 1875, to Marie Myers, who died Aug. 6, 1914.  To this union five children were born, three dying in infancy; one daughter lived to womanhood and died Jan. 5, 1907, and one son still living.  He was a member of Garfield Post at Wichita at the time of his death.  On his return from the war he joined the Methodist church, and held his church relationship there until his death.  He is survived by one brother, three sisters, one son, one daughter, twelve grand children and eight great grand children.
