NATHAN H. DUNCAN             

Independence Daily Reporter, Monday, July 8, 1918:

Nathan H. Duncan was born March 12, 1844, in Lincoln, Lincoln county, Kentucky, and departed this life July 5, 1918, age 74 years, 3 months and 22 days.  He was united in marriage to Laura E. Dunn, Feb. 4, 1869.  To this union were born nine children, three of whom passed on in infancy.  He leaves to mourn his loss Mrs. L. E. Duncan of the city, Frank E. Duncan of Naches, Washington, Mrs. Clara Clover of Severy, Kansas, Mrs. Josephine Brighton of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Amanda McCarney, Perry Duncan and Glen Duncan of this city, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.  He was of a family of sixteen children, of whom four survive, two brothers and two sisters, all are in advanced years and were not able to be present.

Mr. Duncan was a member of the Grace M. E. church of this city, also of the G. A. R.  He served in the Civil war under Captain L. T. McCown, Co. D, 46th Regiment, Iowa Infantry volunteer and was honorably discharged at the close of the war.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. L. E. Duncan, 1132 North Sixth street at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. Mr. Taylor, pastor of the Grace M. E. church.  The remains were laid to rest in Mount Hope cemetery.
