OBITUARY---KROW

  Newton Krow was born May 6. 1840, at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was united in marriage to Jane Ellen Douglass at Biggsville. Illinois, December 11, 1866. They moved west in 1868. and in 1885 moved to Cheyenne county, where he homesteaded, and soon became one of the prominent citizens of the county, and was honored by his fellow citizens with three terms as clerk of the district court of Cheyenne county, beginning in 1888 and ending in 1894. He moved to Goodland in 1898, although he still owns land in Cheyenne county, part of it being his original timber claim he filed on in 1885. He had been in poor health for the last three and one-half years. He passed away Saturday evening, December 12, at 4:20 o'clock. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Clarence of Grand Island. Nebraska, and Warner of this city, and a brother. C. C. Krow, of Rawlston, Oklahoma, who is eighty-live years old. The deceased served in the Civil war, in the 87th Pennsylvania, Co. D., from 1861 to 1865. He was a prisoner part of the time, being in three prisons, the celebrated Libby prison, in Millen and in Andersonville. a total of nine months. He was a member of the Goodland G. A. R.

  The funeral services were held at the home on West Ninth street, Monday afternoon. December 16th. the services being in charge of the deceased's old friend, Rev. Harrison. of St. Francis, assisted by Rev. O. B. Alien. Interment was made in the cemetery north of town. A large number of friends attended the services. Mr. Krow was quiet, unassuming man. and made friends by the score. In his passing Sherman county loses one of her beloved pioneers and the sympathy of all who knew him goes out to the bereaved one.
