Obituary—Griffitt
Samuel P. J. Griffitt was born in
West Virginia, May 22, 1826. He moved to Illinois when about 21 years old,
where he was married to Lucinda Puckett, May 5, 1853. Five years later he
moved to Missouri, and in 1861 he moved to Kansas, settling near Blue Mound.
He enlisted in Co. D, 5th Kansas Vol. Cav. and served to the close of the civil
war. He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church when
a young man, was soon after made a licensed exhortor and continued in that
relation to the time of his death. He died at his home on April 25, 1910
aged 88 years, 11 months and 7 days.
And thus passes another of the
good old men. He has lived more than his allotted three score years and
ten and lived it well. His voyage on the turbulent sea of life is ended.
He is safely anchored in his Father’s harbor and like the weary mariner who
has stood faithfully through the long watches, has laid down to peaceful
slumber.
