Samuel Losson Steele, Obituary.

  Samuel Losson Steele was born in White county, Indiana, August 16, 1835.  Died February 15, 1905, aged 69 years 5 months and 29 days.

  In early life he became a member of the United Presbyterian church, and was an active member of that organization for a number of years.  Later in life he joined the United Brethren, and was a member of that church when he died.

  Mr. Steele was a soldier of the Civil war, enlisting in Company H, 87th Indiana volunteers.  Immediately after the close of the war he came to Coffey county, Kansas, where he lived until 1896 when he moved to Linn county that being his home when he died.

  Mr. Steele died very suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. M. Kinney at Barclay, Osage county, Kansas.  He leaves nine children to mourn his loss.  Mrs. F. E. Balsom of Hamilton, Kansas, Mrs. T. G. Rodman of Madison, Kansas, Robert Steele of Burlington, Kansas, Mrs. A. L. Courtright of Monticello, Indiana, Daniel Steele of Hamilton, Kansas, Frank Steele of Hamilton, Kansas and Mrs. William West and Mrs. Joseph Witcher.

  The funeral was held at the Big Creek Presbyterian church, Friday in charge of J. Ira. Jones of the Christian church.  Mr. Steele was very highly esteemed by those who knew him.
