Sylvester Davis.

 

  Sylvester Davis was born in Lebanon, Montgomery county, Ohio, and died March 10, 1911, at the home of his son, W. T. Davis, at Delavan.  He was 69 years, 9 months and 21 days old.

  His father died when he was quite young.  Shortly afterward he moved to Putnam county, Indiana, where he grew to manihood.  He was married to Caroline C. Matkins February 16, 1862.

  Shortly after this marriage he heard the call of his country and offered himself as its servant.  In 1882 he in company with his wife and family moved to Morris county, settling in Council Grove.

  He was the father of five children, four sons and one daughter, all of whom are still living.

  Mr. Davis was a Christian man and a kind father.  He was converted and united with the M. E. church.
