Died: Oct. 14, 1909
Thomas M. Weir was born at Mt. Carmel in Wabash county, Illinois, on February 24, 1835, and died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Mannin Gross, in Council Grove, Kansas, on October 14, 1909, being 74 years, 7 months and 20 days old.
When quite young he moved to Rockville, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. On Oct. 4, 1856, he was married to Sarah Patton, in Park county, Indiana. To this union were born nine children, of which four, two sons and two daughters survive him. They are Mrs. Mary E. Yadon, Mrs. Rosa J. Gross, and Mr. Charles Weir, of Council Grove, Kansas, and Mr. Cary E. Weir of Kansas City, Missouri.
He moved from Indiana to Kansas in 1883 and settled in Morris county, where he continued to reside until his death. Mr. Weir was a veteran of the civil war spending four years in defense of the flag he loved.
He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of seventeen. His was a genial disposition, and he had a kind word and a pleasant greeting for every one. His funeral was held from the residence of Mr. Gross on October 15, Rev. James W. Reed being in charge, and the body was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery by the side of his companion who proceeded him across the mystic vale a little more than a year and a half ago.
