YARDLEY/SUMPTER  posted Tuesday, January 3, 2006
My mother was Berniece D. YARDLEY and she married a Norvel "Jack" SUMPTER in the late 1930s or early 1940s. I know that she lived in Winfield, Kansas around 1937-38 and then moved sometime after that to Arkansas City, Kansas. I am doing genealogy on the family and I am searching for any information on Berniece and/or Jack.

I was born in Winfield and I was adopted at birth. Berniece Yardley was my birth mother and I found her in 1965 and we formed a relationship. I tell you this information so that you will know that I don't know much at all about Berniece's marriage to Jack. I know that he was in World War II and I think he was in the navy. They were eventually divorced and she remarried Roy Rollins in 1955 at Garden City, Kansas. A cousin told me that his name was Norvel Sumpter and she thinks that Jack was a nickname.

I hope you might have some information available that I can use or at least let me know where I might find information. I would especially like to find a marriage record and any information on Norval Jack Sumpter.     Thank you very much, .   Carolyn Simmons, Garland, Texas
