1892

10-22 Burns, John
Age, about 20, by the cars Tuesday night. After visiting his parents at the Old Soldiers' Home, he stole a ride on the train, and was killed trying to jump off at the depot here. Burial was Thursday.

10-29 Harvey, William
By suicide on Wednesday. His body was found near the wagon crossing on 10th Street, his knife in hand. He settled in Pierceville in 1879 where he was in business for many years. Recently he shipped his goods to Colorado after operating a store in Garden City. The funeral was held Thursday with Rev. Dauerty and Rev. Hull officiating. He leaves his wife and three small children.

11-05 Mack, Mrs. Aurel
At her residence here on Wednesday, following a long illness. The funeral was held Friday at the Congregational Church. She leaves two sons and a daughter.



1893

01-21 Abbott, Milo J.
Age 67y, 6m, 28d, at his home on W. Fulton Street on January 19 of heart failure. Born January 22, 1825 in New Hampshire, he married Adeline Burt July 3, 1849 of Lyme, N.H. and was father of 13 children, nine of whom are living. The Abbotts came to Garden City in 1882. He had served as sexton of the Garden City Cemetery since its inception. Funeral will be tomorrow at the Congregational Church.

01-28 Addis, Albert E.
Age 36, at his home SE 1/4 11-23-34, on January 21, of hemorrhage of the stomach. Born in Fayette County, Pa., he came to Finney County in 1884. He married December 22 last, Miss Cora L. Stair of Colorado Springs, living little more than a month from that day. Funeral Tuesday from the home, conducted by Rev. J.C. Moore. Burial in Garden City Cemetery.

01-21 Deck, Mrs. Emma
Age 35, wife of Gideon Deck on Thursday, January 19 at the home in Pleasant Valley township, of blood poisoning due to childbirth. Remains to Abbyville, Kansas for interment.

02-04 Hayward, Joseph B.
Age 69y, 18d, on Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George H. DeWaters, Pine and 7th streets, from a stroke. Born in York County, Pa., he came to Sterling, Kansas in 1879 and to Garden City in 1880. He married Kate Kerr March 5, 1860, now deceased. Remains to York County, Pa., for burial in old Quaker Cemetery.

03-11 Oliver, Mrs. M.D.
Age 83, mother of Rev. N.H. Oliver of the Methodist church at Santa Fe, on Tuesday, March 7. Burial in Garden City Cemetery on Thursday.

03-11 Templeton, George Francis
Age 29y, 11m, 26d, on Friday March 3 at his home northwest of the city of consumption. Born March 5, 1863, was left fatherless at early age in Shelby County, Ill. Married Mary C. Reynolds May 13, 1884, coming to Kansas in 1887. Leaves wife and four children. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J.C. Moore, burial in city cemetery.

01-28 Stringfield, Elizabeth Ann
On Friday, January 20 at home of her parents near Terry. Born January 26, 1860, had been an invalid most of her life. The funeral from the home, 16 miles north of the city on January 22.

02-11 Starr, Bella
Age 3, daughter of William and Susie Starr, on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Starr's father, John Leese, 16 miles east of this city. The family had recently moved here from Kingman, Kansas, where the remains were taken. Mrs. Starr was a sister of Mrs. H.S. Gregory.

02-11 Titus
Infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Titus was interred in Garden City Cemetery Sunday.

02-18 Owens, Mrs. James
At Versailles, Ky., formerly of this locality. Mr. and Mrs. Owens were among the first settlers near Knauston in pioneer days.

03-18 Moore
Little daughter of M.L. Moore near Pierceville on Tuesday, of croup. Funeral held Thursday.

03-18 Worden, Miss Susie
Age 21, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Worden, at Syracuse on Sunday, March 12. She taught school 9 miles north of Syracuse.

03-25 McVey, James
At his home near Clinton, Henry County, Mo., on March 4. He was the father of Mrs. Ansel Fowlston and Mrs. M.F. Griggs of this city and a holder of real estate here.

04-08 Weir, E. P.
Little son of W.I. Weir, 2 1/2 miles northeast of the city. The 5 yr. old child was killed while playing under a sand bank when his father was loading sand. Was buried under three feet of sand. Funeral Sunday and burial in Garden City cemetery.

04-15 Brooks, Chester I.
Age 20 months, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Brooks on Sunday, April 9. Funeral from home of child's grandfather, L.H. Eggers. Burial in Garden City cemetery.

04-29 Davis, Glydia
Age 18y, 7m, 6d, on Friday at home of her mother in David City, Nebr. The news a blow to her many friends here.

05-06 Hemphill, Mary Ann Caywood
Age 65y, 6m, 8d, in this city on April 21, 1893. Born in Butler County, Ohio October 13, 1827. She married J.S. Hemphill August 1849 in Clinton County, Ill. Came from Champaign County, Ill. to Garden City in 1885. Funeral at the Cumberland Presbyterian church April 23 with Rev. J.C. Moore and Rev. C.E. Wallace officiating. Burial in Garden City cemetery.

05-13 Bronson
Little child of Mr. and Mrs. Bronson, residing in the Lingenfelter property, on Tuesday of whooping cough. Funeral on Wednesday.

05-13 Carter, Miss Bulah M.
Sister of J.V. Carter, at Emporia on April 27.

05-20 Mumper, Mrs. Cambellena
The daughter of Dr. W.B. McKeever of Syracuse, on Friday, May 12 at home in Manitou, Colo. She was married to George B. Mumper at Kinsley, Kans. January 12, 1892, and leaves a son only a few days old. Funeral on Saturday at residence of her sister, Mrs. Frank Worrell, 5th and Fulton streets, conducted by Rev. J.C. Moore. Burial in Garden City cemetery.

05-27 Tallant, J. F.
Age 72, of heart failure on Wednesday at the residence of Miss Angie Triplett on 6th street.
