Need info on this information I found in Irma Hardesty Wesley's book, "Hardestys of America". On page 182, title "Hardesty House, Dodge City, 1878". (Is this area in Clark Co or Ford Co KS?) The article states....." Col. R.J. HARDESTY, born in KY, left his home with three brothers for the Colorado Gold Rush. Successful in gold mining in Montana, Col HARDESTY invested his gold findings in cattle. For several years he and his brother John were running large herds near Dodge City. "...the HARDESTY House built in 1878 for Col R.J. HARDESTY by A. B. WEBSTER, another of Dodges City's early day settlers. The HARDESTY house, outstanding in its architecture and workmanship in the early days, is still admired today." "In 1874, they were offered $500,000 for their cattle interests but considered they could not sell out at that figure. The winter 1884-1885 was the year of the severe blizzard in Western KS and a great loss of cattle left the HARDESTY herd at a value of not more than $50,000." "Col R.J. Hardesty married Miss Margaret Mattas of Leavenworth, KS and they came directly to Dodge City, (?Ford, ?Clark Co,) to make their home. Mrs. HARDESTY was a sister to Mrs. Fred HARVEY of the famous HARVEY House family. The HARDESTY'S had one child, a daughter named Sallie. Col R.J. HARDESTY died April 29, 1910." Who was R.J. Death and the changing world has altered that so there are no DAWSONS to my knowledge listed. Maybe a married female cousin or two by another name.

FRENCH

Philip French on Mon, December 15, 1997
There is no history on Mr. FRENCH.  In Dearborn county other than he was my grandfathers father.  The Dearborn county court house burned sometime in the 1860's.  The story goes that he went off to war and didn't return until many years after the war was over, in the meantime thinking he was dead his wife remarried. He appeared many years later and was made welcome by his son.  After a while they had a disagreement and he went to an old soldiers home in Kansas. Where we think he eventually died.  I wondered if you could find any information on him?
