Topic: Atlas of Jewell County by Gillen & Davy 1884
From: Jim Keikkala jkeikkala@hotmail.com
Date: Tuesday, April 29, 2003 05:01 PM
Recently I inherited an Atlas of Jewell County published by Gillen & Davy for 1884. The Atlas includes a map for each township with the name of the property owner.
At this point I'm not sure how rare is this information but I would be happy make it available to those interested.
My great grandfather, Clarence LaRue Emery, born in Morrison, Stark County, Illinois, homesteaded in Grant Township, Jewell County, Kansas in 1872. His brother-in-law Louis S. Chandler settled there at the same time. Chas E. Murphy accompanied them to Kansas and settled there as well.
Clarence LaRue Emery's father Cyrus Parker Emery (my great, great grandfather) settled in Sinclair Township during the same period. Another son, Cyrus Francis Emery settled there on an adjacent acreage.
I would welcome any information readers to this forum might have on my family and would be happy to reciprocate.
Thank you
Jim (Emery) Keikkala
