BEATTY

Judy Maxwell

I am looking for the cemetery, graves or information of when my 3rd Great Grandfather Jacob H. Beatty and his wife Mary E. Beatty died.  They came to Labette County in the Osage Township in 1869 according to the Biographical Sketches of Osage Township that I found.  The last Census I found them on was 1885 still living in Labette County, Osage Township, so they died between 1885 - 1895.   Jacob was born in Pennsylvania, moved to Ohio, Illinois then to Kansas and was in the Civil War for a brief time.

I am also interested in his son Fremont L. Beatty & wife Lillie they may be buried near Cherryvale.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

HATCHER, CANTERBURY

Researching HATCHER. According to 1917 WWI Registration, Jess L. Hatcher, was 25 years old and working as a farm hand. Jess had two brothers, John H. & Claude Hatcher. Jess (or Jessie) was born June 21, 1892, in Higginsville, Lafayette Co., Missouri. He was the son of Joseph A. Hatcher & Clara V. "Clade" Canterbury. John H. Hatcher was born c. 1890 and was living with his brother Jess in the 1930 census. I'm not certain if Claude lived into adulthood, but he was born c. 1893. All were probably born in Higginsville. Their parents died when the boys were quite young and were placed in the Women's Christian Association Orphan's Home in KC, MO, c. 1900. Jessie L. Hatcher married Delta May LNU in either Labette or Neosho Counties, KS. They had at least one son, Daniel W., who was born in about 1925. MITCHELL

I have just discovered that my great-great-grandfather, John Mitchell, appears to have had a second family that none of his descendants were aware of.  He appears on the 1885 Neosho, Labette, Kansas state census with a woman over thirty years his junior (her initial are H. A.)  A 2-year-old boy, with initials R.E., are also listed with the family.  The clue that seriously leads me to think that this is "my" John Mitchell, is the fact that John Pue (correct spelling is Pugh) appears with the family, as he did in the 1875 and 1880 censuses.  We have yet to find a marriage certificate for the couple, or an obituary for John.  We DO know that he died in April of 1890 and is buried beside his first wife, Mary Pugh, in the Fowler Cemetery in Neosho County, Kansas, near Erie.  Any ideas, anyone?  Thanks for your help.

 KENNISON, KINNISON ,KENISON,  KINISON

I'm doing research on the Kinison line.... Kennison - Kinnison - Kenison among some other spellings.....
I have some information built up about my Kinison family and I hope that you may point me in the right direction - were I might find some old death records - obituaries - cemeteries for Labette County. I know that my following grandparents died in Labette County. These folks were dirt poor, but were proud, hardy and close knit. They may have settled in Kansas in the mid 1850's. The earliest record I found in Kansas was 1857 in Doniphan County Kansas. They settled in Walton twp, Labette in the early 1870's the earliest record I found was 1875. Than in Osage twp, Labette from 1880 and from there on.

Charles C Kinison born abt 1830 in Illinois, died in Labette County sometime within the 1895 and 1900 - not sure exactly when. I have 15 records about Charles, including that he was a civil war veteran with the 8th Regiment, Kansas Infantry, Company G. He was wounded early in the war and received a pension. Charles' wife Eliza (Hill) Kinison abt 1828 of Ohio, died in Labette County sometime within the 1885 and 1895 - not sure exactly when. I have 7 records about Eliza, including marriage, a 1850 census which list her parents and brothers and sisters and records which show that one of Eliza's brothers James Hill (single) and one of her sisters Eleanor Hill (single) stayed with the Kinison families for many years.

Charles parents where Samuel R Kinison born abt 1800 in Kentucky, died in Labette County sometime within the 1875 and 1880 - not sure exactly when. I have 12 records.
And Lucinda P (Crume) Kinison born abt 1804 in Kentucky, died in Doniphan County or Labette County sometime within the 1870 and 1875 - not sure exactly when. I have 12 records.

I appreciate any help you may lead me to, many thanks,

PLUMMER, MEYER, SUTTON

Lucinda was last living with her daughter Amanda A Plummer Meyer (Myers) in 1895 in Mound Valley. Lucinda's maiden name was Sutton and she and John were married in 1837 in Kosciusko county Indiana. I also have genealogy on Plummers for DAR or SAR. If anyone has an old family bible or news account of her death which I presume was in Labette county I would appreciate the information.

WINES

I am Edward C. Wines whose paternal grandfather Aron (Aaron) Wines was listed in the 1875 Kansas census as being in Labette County.  He is listed as being 23 years old (which is accurate) and married to Marie Wines, age 19.  A Fanny (??) age 17 is also listed as being in the household.  (Marie is what I read as being the correct name of his wife although the penmanship in the census record is not real clear).

From other sources, I believe that Aaron was employed by the MK&T Railway at the time he lived in Labette County.

Since Aaron is listed in the 1880 US Census as living in another Kansas County and married to Anna B. Shaw-Wines, I would be interested in finding out if
Marie died or divorced Aaron sometime between 1875 and the dare of Mar 19, 1978  when according to family records and also obituary records Ann B. Shaw married
Aaron Wines.

Any information that would help would be appreciated.

COLVIN DIXON

On another site, I found a query from a Mary Colvin, posted in 2002, listing her as a person who would do research at the Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons.  She also had posted a request for information regarding the family of Edward Dixon.  I have quite a lot of information on that family; Edward Dixon was my great-grandmother's brother.  Unfortunately, Mary Colvin's e-mail, as well as that of a person who seemed to be a backup contact, were inactive.  Could you put me in touch with them or someone who might help me locate whomever was and is interested in Dixon family history?

Thank you,

SHOEMAKER

Searching for my great great grandmothers parents. I have an idea but still a few questions. Mary Ann Shoemaker died on March 24, 1922 at the home of her son Emmett Shoemaker. She died in Chetopa, Kansas but was buried next to her husband in Lockwood Mo. Since there is no one I know of the family left .I want to complete this side of my family. My grandmother was Lula Shoemaker, Emmett's sister, and my dad her only son was killed in the line of duty when I was 5 so discussions about that side of the family were null. So anyway if you have an idea for this question I would appreciate it.

DECKER BIEHLER DIEBOLD

In 1910 Aloise and Martin Decker, from Coffey county took a trip back home to Blodelsheim, Alsace, France to visit family. Both men and
another brother Xavier came to America in 1872-82. A sister Mary Kerbs also came over and settled in Shelby Co. Indiana.

On their trip back to America in 1910 the Decker brothers brought two nephews with them.  One boy was their sister Theresa's son whose last name was Biehler. The other was their sister Rose's son whose name was Joe Diebold.  He stayed in America and settled in Parsons Kansas.  I found a Joseph Diebold (dob 17-Jun-85) listed on the 1917-18 alien list.  I am sure this is our relative. Also saw a Joe and Robert Diebold registered in the WWII conflict.(Sons?) Joseph kept contact with his uncles and he and his wife attend Martin's funeral in 1942 at Burlington KS.

I am searching for any information I can find on the Joseph Diebold family.

DOBBINS

Hi Kathy, I'm looking for information on the parents of the brothers Stanton Orlando Dobbins and Rexford Willis Dobbins. Rexford was born in 1895. The Kansas State Census Collection 1855-1915 has him born in Labette. I know from oral history that Rexford and Stanton lived in Coffeyville.  Their mother's name maybe Mary. I have no other information on them and haven't been able to find the surname on the county indices.
