Thanks for nay help! ----------------------------------------------- CARMICHAEL...McNAUGHT Bob Fraser (fraserrs@uwec.edu) 25 December 2001 I am hoping that someone can be of assistance to me in finding several obituaries for the McNAUGHT and CARMICHAEL families. These individuals are connected by birth or marriage to a sister of my Great-Great-Grandfather, William Fraser Jr. All of them have a connection with Thayer and Neosho County, Kansas. First, William McNAUGHT. He came to Neosho County about 1890 and in 1902 was residing in Shiloh Township (1902 History of Neosho County, p. 286). He is buried in Thayer Cemetery. He was born in 1846 in County Limerick, Ireland and died 16 March 1922. Second, His wife, Janet Howie McNAUGHT, born 29 August 1845 and died 2 March 1916. She is buried in Thayer Cemetery. Third, Their son, George McNAUGHT born in 1877 and died after 1928. In 1928 he was living in Thayer, Kansas. Fourth, Norton A. CARMICHAEL born 16 August 1859 and died 21 September 1921. He is buried in Thayer Cemetery. Fifth, Norton's wife, Sarah Ann CARMICHAEL, also buried in Thayer Cemetery, born 30 September 1858 died 20 November 1942. Sixth, Their son John CARMICHAEL born circa 1886 died after 1920 (He was listed in the 1920 census.) Seventh and last, Jennie or Janet (McNAUGHT) CARMICHAEL, wife of John CARMICHAEL and daughter of William McNAUGHT, born 1879 and died after 1928. I am also interested in the place of burial of those not buried (to my knowledge) in Thayer Cemetery: John CARMICHAEL, JENNIE CARMICHAEL, GEORGE McNAUGHT. ----------------------------------------------- DURALL...COLE...BLOOMHEART...OPP Christopher Durall (c.durall@comcast.net) 19 December 2001 I am searching for more information regarding this family. Ira & Maria (DILDINE) SHARP and six children, both died before 1875 and would like any info about where the children stayed after their deaths. C. HARP is still with the Neosho United Methodist Church. I am doing research on GORE's. I am looking for information on a Lilly COLLINS, as to when she died and where she is buried. Lilly was previously married to William M. GORE, my husband's Grandfather. They were later divorced and she married a William COLLINS in LaFontaine, Kansas around 1905. They had a son, Clifford COLLINS, born May 2, 1907. I found the obituary of Clifford in Neodesha and it listed a surviving brother by the name of Glen HILL. Rev. HARP officiated at the funeral of Glen HILL on April 3, 1998 in Neosho at the Methodist Church. I am sure this is the Glen HILL I am looking for. It mentioned that his wife, Margaret survived him. I would like to see if there are any survivors still in Neosho that might be able to give me information on Glen. ----------------------------------------------- GRABLE Carolyn Holt (jholt2@qwest.net) 7 November 2001 I am looking for information on the Jason and Huldah GRABLE family listed in the 1880 census as residing in Grant, Neosho County, Kansas. ----------------------------------------------- ERIKSSON Jack Larson (jaklinda@volcano.net) 12 October 2001 My Grandmother, Eva ERIKSSON and her brother Gustaf Samuel ERIKSSON, emigrated from Sweden in 1889. Thanks in advance for anything you may provide. ----------------------------------------------- HARTNETT...NEIGHBORS Dan Hartnett (ddhartnett@aol.com) 31 August 2001 I understand that the Osage Catholic Mission was founded in 1847 for Osage Indians living along the Neosho and Verdigris rivers in what is now Neosho County, Kansas. A manual labor school for boys was established by the Jesuits and a department for girls was established for girls by the Sisters of Loretto. In 1848 the first Catholic church in southern Kansas was built there. When the Osages moved to Indian territory in 1870 white children gradually replaced the Indians. Apparently, my Great-Grandfather Dan T. HARTNETT, an Irish Catholic railroad contractor put some of his children in the schools while he was working in Kansas, Arkansas and Texas. The Mission apparently has a great effect because one of Dan T's sons, Jeff became a priest and a daughter became an Ursiline Nun. A George NEIGHBORS of Kentucky was the mechanic at the Mission. He and his wife, Mary Ellen BOONE had moved their family there sometime after 1863. A town, Osage Mission was organized in 1867. Several of the NEIGHBORS' children were born there. My Grandparents, Dan D. HARTNETT, (b: 1862 in Limerick County, Ireland, d: 1925 in Weatherford, Texas) and Sarah Eliza NEIGHBORS, (b: 1863 in Kentucky, d: 1947 in Weatherford) married at the Osage Catholic Mission on September 28, 1886. Dan T. HARTNETT died in Weatherford, Texas in 1891. By 1895, Dan D. and his brothers, Tom D., (b: 1845 in Limerick) and Cornelius D., (b: 1850 in Limerick County, Ireland, d: 1923 in Weatherford, Texas) were well established businessmen and bankers in Weatherford. By 1900, Mary Ellen NEIGHBORS was widowed and living in Dan D.'s household and so was her daughter, Bertha NEIGHBORS, (b: 1881 in Kansas). Three of Mary Ellen's sons, Charles, Jeff and Ken worked for Dan D. HARTNETT's grocery business until they opened their own stores in nearby Texas towns. I do not know if any HARTNETTs or NEIGHBORS stayed on in Kansas, but I know that Osage Mission, Kansas which became St. Paul in 1895 has special significance for those of us who are descendants of the children of union of Dan D. HARTNETT and Sarah Eliza NEIGHBORS. ----------------------------------------------- SHANKLIN...SIDENER Linda Stubbers (l2stubb@camasnet.com) 13 August 2001 I am looking for names and relatives of my Grandmother, Effie E. Joseph's parents: John Henry SHARP, d: 1879 and Lucy (CHAMBERLIN) SHARP, d: 1906.
