"JIM" COLEMAN, SOUTH SIDE BOOSTER, IS
DEAD
Was Well Known Resident of City for 35 Years - Funeral Friday Morning: James H. [sic] Coleman, known to practically every resident of the south part of Hutchinson and also to hundreds of other people of the city as "Jim", died at the family home, 201 Campbell east, yesterday evening at 5 o'clock. He had been ill just ten days with pneumonia. Mr. Coleman was born in Jessamine county, Kentucky, August 1, 1864. He came to Kansas and to Hutchinson thirty-five years ago and had lived in this city continuously since that time. He married Sarah C. Burns, January 31, 1888 in Hutchinson. Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Coleman, three sons and three daughters. They are A. E. Coleman of 208 Campbell east; J. Frank Coleman of South Hutchinson; Mrs. S. P. Duree, of Eastwood, Mo; Ralph, Ruth and Marie Coleman, who live at home. The family has lived on Campbell street for the past fifteen years. Six sisters and a brother also survive Mr. Coleman. They are Mrs. A, A, Bird, Mrs George Coleman and Mrs. Belle Sames of Hutchinson; Mrs. Margaret Redden, of Borton, Ill; Mrs. Mattie Dean, Mrs. Sarah Smith and G. M. Coleman, all of McCloud, Okla. As a political worker, a south side booster, lodge man and family man, Mr. Coleman was well known. He was the one man who always "spoke up" for the south side residents to the councilmen and later when the Third (page folded over this sentence) ... chants Transfer Company, which he sold about a year ago. He had been doing construction work in the past few months. He was a worker for the Redman lodge, being a member of the finance committee of the Kansas grand lodge at the time of his death.
