SCHOOL DAYS OF OLD RECALLED

-------------------

Former Pupils of District No. 60

Hold Reunion at Harper Home.

-----------------

Reno county school life as it was 39 years ago was re-enacted last night when 23 members of old district No. 60, now disbanded, met at the home of F. L. Harper in Medford township for an evening of fun.

Thirty-nine years ago when that district was in operation there were 82 pupils enrolled.  The district was disbanded in 1908, joining with Union No. 5.

Old school songs were repeated while there were a number of readings on the program.  A big dinner played an important part in the celebration.

Nichols Schmitz, of Pittsburgh Pa., now an instructor in Penn State, made a short talk at the re-union.  He was one of the students 39 years ago.  It was voted to make the celebration an annual one.

Others who attended were:  Mrs. Maggie Hinshaw, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Maude Willard, Chase; Mrs. Olive Bourrell, Mrs. Daisy Battin, Mrs. Etta Sankey, Mrs. Josei Zimmerman, Mrs. Sarah Humiston, Mrs. Anna Chappell, J. D. Cantwell and Overton Hickman, all of Hutchinson; Mrs. Ruth Leatherman, Mrs. Hannah White, Mrs. Lizzie Miller, Mark Elliott, Ralph Cantwell, W. F. Culbertson, T. R. Cantwell, Frank Schmitz, S. C. White, Chas. M. Guttery, Earl Burk and F. L. Harper, all of Sterling.

Letters were read from Russell Hinshaw, Wakarusa, Kan.; Mrs. Jessie Cole, Cimarron, Kan.; Mrs. Pearl Miller, Holly, Colo.; Charles and William Ratcliffe, Rose Pine, La.

Mrs. Sally Humiston, 407 West Sherman, will be on the School Day program, with her school report card to show what a good pupil she has been.  It is a report card dated Nov. 12, 1886, when she was Sally Hickman, a pupil in District 60, Medford township, taught then by S. P. Beardsley.  She will have the old card at the “Last Day of School” program.
