CASTLEREIGH SUMMERS, my ggGrandfather, was born in VA, February, 1818 and was
buried at Clearwater, Kansas, 1912. He married Miss Agnes J. Tinsley of
Bedford County, Virginia, in 1847, with whom he had five children: James
Frank, Nancie E., Sallie C., Elisha B. and Lucy J. They appear in the 1860
Census for Allegany Co, VA (Covington). His wife, Agnes, died in 1861. He
married his second wife, Mary J. Bacon, in December, 1861 and a daughter, Ida
M., was born in 1868. The family moved west after the War of Rebellion, and
they appear in the 1870 Census for Atchison Co, KS; the 1875 KS Census for
Ninnescah Twshp, Sedgwick County, KS; and thereafter through 1910. Kansas
Historical Society documents show the family one of the first to settle in
the Clearwater, Kansas area in 1871.

Castlereigh's father, Samuel (of German decent), is shown as born "At Sea"
in one of the later censuses. This would put the father's date of "birth at
sea", circa 1780 - 1800. The mother, Anna Hall, was born in Virginia, same
time period, an was of Irish/English decent, probably from Northern Ireland
and their religion may have been Presbyterian, since there is an old
Castlereagh Presbyterian Church in Belfast.
