African American

Fort Scott had a very large portion of its population that were African American. There were churches, schools, businesses and families living in the boundaries of Fort Scott, but there were also farmers outside the city limits in Bourbon County who owned their own land. We have much information available from personal history, obituaries, African American cemeteries, military service, school history and photographs as well as stories of lives spent in Fort Scott.
