Files

Birth card files and a large book covers early times in Bourbon County. Death card files, a large book and many notebooks are filled with death obituaries. OFGS volunteers created a card file called "Maiden Name" which is a listing of a woman's maiden and her married name. 7 filing cabinets are full of volunteer researching of individual names. These are ancestors who a family member requested looking for information about their ancestor's lives. Our volunteers have spent hundreds of hours researching the ancestors for those who have contacted us. OFGS has started two new areas of stored research and that is Residences and Subject matters for Fort Scott and Bourbon County. Fort Scott is full of historic homes and our goal is to have a detailed history of our residences. The subject matter covers all types of history in Bourbon County and is usually gleaned from newspapers.
