Max Ames Dies, Services To Be Friday

Mr. Max Ames, 68, 15 South Osage, a retired mortician, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1906, in Grant County, Okla., to Elmer and Sarah Elizabeth Huhn Ames. He was married to Velma Ruby Lewis on April 11, 1927, at Wellington.

Mr. Ames was a professional funeral director and embalmer and had been employed over the years at Dodge City, Wichita and Bucklin, later working at the Schaeffer-Thompson Chapel.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, Sumner County Lodge No. 203, AF&AM, and the Lions Club.

Survivors include his widow of the home, one son, M. David Ames of Fairfax, Va., one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Marvel) Gilger of Hutchinson, one sister, Mrs. Ivan (Vera) Struble of Caldwell. and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dean Rose officiating. Cremation will be at the Downing Mortuary in Wichita. Schaeffer-Thompson is in charge of local arrangements.

A memorial in his name has been established to the First United Methodist Church.
