Richland Township - Pgs. 198-238

Pg. 200: Joseph and Anna Havel of Dolni Stupno (Bohemia) Czecoslovakia, came to the US in 1878 and homesteaded N.E. 1/4 Section 21, Richland. This is now occupied by their grandson, Bedford and his wife, Olive Havel. The Joseph Havels were the parents of Frank, Vaclov, Joseph, Anton, Albert (Vojtech), Magdelina Blazek, and Ann Benyshek. After the death of Joseph and Ann Havel, the homestead was occupied by their youngest son, Anton, and his wife, Frances; Hess Havel and Children: Barbara Krob, Frances Heina, Albert, Joseph C Bedford, Lenora Svoboda and Tracy B. Svoboda.

Pg. 21: The Valek (Wallack) family came from Bohemia in 1886 and settled near Richmond, Iowa. From there they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, latery they moved to Cuba. They came by covered wagon and homesteaded two miles south and 1/2 each of the present Cuba. This farm is now owned by Edward Pachta. The following came from Bohemia to the US: Great - grandfather Josef Wallack, Grandfather Anton Wallack, and Grandmother Anna (Hrabe) Wallack and their three children. Great grandmother Wallack was born in Prague, Bohemia, 1807, and died in 1862. Grandfather Anton Wallack was born in Bohemia in 1825 and died near Agenda in 1916, the victim of a wood saw accident. He was living with his son, Anton Jr., at the time of his death. Anton was a professional stone mason and carpenter. Grandmother Anna (Hrabe) Wallack was born in Bohemia in 1839 and died on the homestead near Cuba in 1897. They were the parents of 10 children: James, Joseph, Mary Valek Huncovsky, John Frank, Emma Valek Houdek, Joseph, Katherine, Marie and Anton.

Pg. 215: Grank Havel, father of C. W. Havel, Cuba was born March 11, 1846, in Czechoslovakia and came to Kansas by the way of Iowa. In 1873, he homesteaded a farm one mile south of Cuba, in Section 19, Richland Township, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klima. That same year, he married Katherine Benyshek, who was born in Manitowac, Wisconsin on 1 Jul 1857. They were the parents of nine children: Albina Havel, Tille Havel Chruma, Charlie Havel, Anna Havel Kolman, Emma Havel Houdek, Elsie Havel, Besa Havel, Frank and Amelia.

Pg. 262: Jerry Havel was an assistant cashier at the State Bank of Cuba, organized in 1901.
