The KANSAS GENWEB PROJECT

Welcome to the continuing search for Wyandotte County, Kansas pioneers. This page is part of the Kansas GenWeb Project which is part of a national USGenWeb Project with its national Archive. And, yes, there is also a WorldGenWeb project.

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. Their idea to provide a single entry point for each KY county was not a new one. Kansas, for example, had started a similar volunteer project in July 1994 called Kansas Heritage for genealogy and history of Kansas. But the KCGDP expanded from a Kentucky county focus, to a worldwide focus, to find volunteers for every county in each state and for all countries on Earth. These volunteers in turn are looking for others to contribute names, book look-ups, queries, and possibly tips and URLs to other web sites about genealogy in their counties.

Kansas already had a growing on-line interest in genealogy research. You may want to check out the many general on-line genealogy links available through Kansas Interactive Genealogy and Kansas Heritage, including the Kansas Surname List
