Eddings 1932-2004 Funeral services for Leon D. Eddings, 72, Greeley, KS, were Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, with Lloyd Houk officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Military Honor Guard was provided by Garnett VFW Post #6397 and American Legion Fuller-Thompson Post #48. Mr. Eddings died Saturday, May 22, at his home near Greeley. Leon D. Eddings was born March 1, 1932, at Hasty, AR, the son of Troy C. and Dessia C. (Asher) Eddings. He was raised in Arkansas and graduated from high school in 1949. He attended business college for one year. Leon served in the United States Marine Corps from October 25, 1949, to January 30, 1953. He then lived in Tulsa, OK, until moving to Greeley in 1967. Leon and Joyce Burke were married October 19, 1958, at Tulsa. Mr. Eddings was preceded in death by his parents, Troy C. and Dessia C. Eddings. Leon is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; his son, Troy W. Eddings and his wife, Connie, Greeley; his daughters, Rebecca A. Teter and her husband, Scott, Ottawa, KS, and Lisa M. Eddings, Greeley; his sisters, Jimmie McCutcheon, Nashville, TN, Wanda Gregory, Harrison, AR, and Sue Chaffin, Branson, MO; and his grandchildren, Cheyenne Eddings and Carston Teter. Music selections included 'I Believe', 'Go Rest High On That Mountain', and 'Angels Among Us', sung by Becky McFadden. Casketbearers were John C. Bowman, Terry Egidy, Ben Katzer, Mike Ohmes, Joe Osborn, and Joe Wolken. The family received friends on Tuesday, May 25, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Allen County Hospice. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements." Page 5, Column 4: "Alfred 'Doc' Mathias 1914-2004 Funeral services for Alfred 'Doc' Mathias, 89, Ottawa, KS, were Friday, May 28, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with Pastor Scott Dickinson officiating. Interment was in Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, KS. Mr. Mathias died Monday, May 24, at Topeka Health Care Center, Topeka, KS. Alfred Mathias was born October 27, 1914, at Ottawa, KS, the son of David L. and Mary Ada (Kennedy) Mathias. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County until moving to Tecumseh, KS, in 2002. Alfred was a lifelong farmer. He also worked at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in DeSoto, KS, during World War II. In the early 1950's, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and, in the mid-1950's, for Osburn's Greenhouse in Ottawa. He was also employed as a machinist for Gulf and Western, now known as Ottawa Truck, for eight years, retiring in 1976. Doc and Norena Pearl Ritchal were married July 22, 1938, at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2001. Mr. Mathias was also preceded in death by his grandson, David Leroy Mathias, Jr.; his parents, David L. and Mary Ada Mathias; his brother, John Mathias; and his sister, Edith Deaton. Doc is survived by his children Jo Ann (Mathias) Harding, Tecumseh, KS, David L. Mathias, Carbondale, KS, Leo F. Mathias, Blue Mound, KS, and Marjorie A. Mathias, Osawatomie, KS; his sisters, Ruth Rathjen and Mildred Brown, both of Princeton, KS, and Nellie Carey, Kansas City, KS; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six great- great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family greeted friends on Thursday, May 27, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Franklin County Support Group for the American Diabetes Association. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements." "Erma Z. Powell 1922-2004 Funeral services for Erma Powell, 82, Stockton, KS, were Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Colony, KS, with Pastor Hobie Brown officiating. Interment was in Geneva Cemetery, Geneva, KS. Mrs. Powell died Friday, May 28, at Rooks County Health Center, Plainville, KS. A complete obituary will appear later."
