Coffman 1918-2005 Funeral services for Floyd H. Coffman, 86, Lawrence, were Saturday, February 3, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Overbrook. Interment was in Union Cemetery near Centropolis. Judge Coffman died Wednesday, February 2, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Floyd H. Coffman was born July 6, 1918, on a farm south of Overbrook, the son of Clyde and Minerva (Bragg) Coffman. He was the fifth of their six sons. He graduated from Excelsior Country School and from Overbrook Rural High School in 1936. He graduated from Kansas State Teacher College in December, 1940, and then started Washburn Law School, where he became a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Crawford on January 11, 1942, at the Methodist parsonage at Overbrook. They shared over 62 years of marriage before Geraldine’s death on September 16, 2004. Floyd entered the United States Army in February of 1942. He served in the 4th Port of Embarcation at Liverpool, England, before being transferred to the Allied Headquarters in Algiers, North Africa, and relocated to Caserta, Italy, in June of 1944. He was discharged in October of 1945. He returned to Washburn Law School and graduated in June of 1948. The family moved to Ottawa, where he entered the practice of law. After a year as a law clerk with Federal Court in Kansas City, he was elected Probate Judge of Franklin County. In 1952, he was elected District Judge of the fourth Judicial District, comprised of Douglas, Franklin, and Anderson counties. He was retained as District Judge until retirement in 1983. Floyd was president of the Kansas Probate Judges Association in 1953 and the Kansas District Judges Association in 1957. He was a member of the Kansas Bar Association for more than 50 years. He was active in the First United Methodist Church and was the Lay Member to the Annual Conference for many years. He became Conference Lay Leader in 1958. In 1960, he was elected by the Annual Conference to be a delegate to the General Conference of the Methodist Church. He was reelected quadrennially until 1984. From 1960 to 1984, he served on several general boards of the Church, including the General Board of Pensions and General Council of Ministries. Floyd served as president of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce; Master of the Ottawa Lodge No. 18, A.F. & A.M.; was a member of the Ridgeway Lodge No. 62, A.F. & A.M. at Overbrook; President of the Ottawa Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International Foundation; and was a leader of the Rambling Ranchers 4-H Club at Ottawa for many years and was named a State 4-H Leader. Judge Coffman was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; his parents, Clyde and Minerva Coffman; and five brothers. Floyd is survived by his sons, Bruce C. Coffman and his wife, Sandra, of Silver Lake, and H. Hurst Coffman of Topeka; his daughters, Martha J. Coffman and her husband, Patrick Curtiss, of Lawrence, and Geraldine A. Coffman of Overbrook; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas 4-H Foundation, Camp Chippewa, or to the Kansas Bar Association. Hinkle, 89, Garnett, were Monday, February 7, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Hinkle died Friday, February 4, at Anderson County Hospital. Ellen A. Hinkle was born December 16, 1915, at New Cambria, KS, the daughter of William J. and Angie Naomi (Brown) Johnston. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church, Garnett Senior Center, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid card player. Ellen and Kenneth R. Hinkle were married December 31, 1938, at Garnett. They made their home on the farm west of Garnett where they raised their three sons. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1977. Following Kenneth’s death, Ellen had worked at Anderson County Hospital in housekeeping and later at the high school in Garnett. Mrs. Hinkle was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Angie Johnston; and her brother, Earl Johnston. Ellen is survived by her sons, Dale Hinkle and his wife, Carolyn, of Woodridge, IL, Dean Hinkle and his wife, Cindy, of Bonner Springs, and Duane Hinkle of Overland Park; her sister, Darlene Ross of Ottawa; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and her many friends. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Earl Rocker, vocalist. Musical selections included “How Great Thou Art” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. Casketbearers were Jim Bailey, Wayne French, Wayne Pracht, Burke Rogers, Don Wiley, and George Zentner. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church or Garnett Senior Center. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Monica Lynn Wiley January 29-February 6 Funeral services for Monica Lynn Wiley, one week old daughter of Michael Dean Wiley and Lisa Marie Luedke of Leavenworth were Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. Interment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Monica Lynn died February 6 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Monica Lynn is survived by her parents, Mike and Lisa; her brothers, Andrew Wiley, Ryan Wiley, Seth Macklin, and Dale Fagg; her grandparents, Edward and Donna Wiley of Leavenworth, Mike and Therese Button of Blue Springs, MO, Doug and Donna Luedke of Chanute, and Susan Erhart of Iola; her great-grandparents, Bob and Betty Wiley of Lubbock, TX, and Wayne and Twila Luedke of Colony; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Interment is in Greeley Cemetery. Mr. Yaw died Tuesday, February 8, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. A complete obituary will appear in the next Advocate. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Miller died Friday, February 4, at Olathe Medical Center. Gerry Lee Miller was born November 23, 1960, at Garnett, the son of Gerald and Virginia (Thompson) Miller. He was a carpenter. Gerry served with the United States Navy. He was a member of Lakeland Community Church in Lees Summit, MO. Gerry and Becky Reynolds were married May 20, 2000, at Pleasant Hill, MO. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Miller, in 1978. Gerry is survived by his wife, Becky, of the home; his step-sons, Dakota, age 14, and Dylan, age 12, both of the home; his daughter, Randi, age 4, of the home; his parents, Gerald and Ginny Miller of Garnett; his sister, Cindy Lowe of Garnett; and his grandparents, Ruth Huggins, and Frank and Lois Miller, all of Garnett.
