Kuhnert, Pauline nee Handke:

Mrs. Pauline Kuhnert, 82, who was the mother of 12 children and who lived in Atchison County most of her life, died early this morning at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chew, in Pasadena, California.

The Chew family formerly lived here and Mrs. Kuhnert accompanied them to California in 1946.

Mrs Kuhnert was born June 12, 1866, in Nicklalena, Schlazian, Germany, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Handke. She came to America at the age of 15. June 2, 1884, she was married to William F. Kuhnert. They established their home on a farm 10 miles north of Atchison and lived there until the fall of 1919. Moving to Atchison they lived at 810 North Ninth Street.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mrs. Kuhnert was an interested worker in all of its undertakings. She was a wonderful mother and neighbor.

Mr. Kuhnert died Feb. 22, 1940 and their son, Will Kuhnert, on Feb. 16, 1944. Surviving besides Mrs. Chew are 10 other children, Julius, Roy, and Mrs. A. D. Berry (Pauline), all of Rushville, Henry Kuhnert, Denton, Mrs. Ray Flynn (Ida), Nortonville, Herman and Paul Kuhnert, Atchison, Mrs. Arthur Larson (Emma), Drain, Oregon and Howard Kuhnert and Mrs. Ernest Scholz (Anna), Pasadena, California, a sister, Mrs. Anna Baur, St. Joseph, and a number of grand-children and great-grandchildren.

The body will be brought to Atchison for burial. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Stanton & Stanton is in charge.
