Mrs. Frank Young, a resident of Atchison and Atchison County for 74 years, died at 9:30 o'clock last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Wagner. She had been in failing health for the past four years. Mrs. Young was 78 years of age.
Funeral service will be held tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Leslie Long, 123 North Tenth Street, where the body was taken this afternoon from the Sawin & Douglas Mortuary. The Rev. F. W. C. Jesse will officiate.
The body will remain in state at the Long home until the funeral hour. The casket will not be opened at the church.
Burial will be on the family lot at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be six grandsons, Charles and Arthur Voelker, Eugene and Joseph Wagner, Arthur Young, Jr. and William Zschoche, Jr.
Emma Wihlemena Kuhnert was born March 19, 1860, in Mengerstorf, Schigzian, Germany. When she was only 12 weeks old she was brought to America by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Kuhnert. The family settled in Wathena, Kansas, and then moved to a farm in Atchison County, six miles north of this city.
She was baptized in Germany and confirmed in the Old Lutheran Church here, which was situated at Tenth and Commercial Streets, by the Rev. Zschoche.
At the age of 18 she was united in marriage to Julius Peuker. Five children were born to the union, two of whom have died. When Mrs. Peuker was 28 she was left a widow, December 12, 1889, she was married to Fran Young. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Young, all of whom survive.
Mr. and Mrs. Young lived on their farm six miles north of town until 1916 and then moved to ?? South Fourth Street. Mr. Young died in December, 1934, and since Mrs. Young have lived with her children.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Charles Voelker, George Peuker, Mrs. William Wagner, Mrs. Leslie Long, Arthur Young and Grover Young, all of whom live in or near Atchison, Mrs. William Zschoche of Kansas City and Mrs. Oscar Schmitt, St. Paul, Minn.; a twin brother, William Kohnert, and 19 grandchildren.
