Former Local Man Dies In Kansas City
James V. Snopak, 82, formerly of Atchison, died at 7:45 a.m. today at his home in Kansas City, Kansas, where he had lived the last four years. He had been in falling health for the last few years.
Funeral services are pending at the Sawin-Dyer Mortuary.
A native of Czechoslovakia, Mr. Snopak came to the United States with his parents at the age of 14. The family first settled in Pennsylvania, later moving to Iowa.
Mrs. Snopak came to Atchison in 1917 and had lived here until moving to Kansas City. At on time he was employed at the Kerford Quarry, did road work for the county and worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Missouri River before retiring a number of years ago.
His home here before going to Kansas City was on Route1.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Miller of the home in Kansas City; two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Smyth, Kansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Helen Flory, Route 1, Atchison; two sons, Merle Snopak, Kansas City, Kansas, and Ernest Snopak, state of Texas; 14 great grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Scott preceded him in death.
