Former state representative Emmett White, 89, died Friday morning at a Winchester hospital.
Mr. White was appointed as a representative from Atchison County in 1929 to complete the term of his father Andy J. White. He later served terms in 1943, 1945 and 1947.
He was born May 11, 1887, the son of Andy J. and Ida Donaldson White. He was a life-long resident of the Prairie View community until he moved to a Nortonville nursing home three years ago.
He was a farmer before he retired. He was a member of the Christian Church and the Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge No. 266, Nortonville.
He was married to Mamie Freeland on Nov. 15, 1915 in Prairie View. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lou Ida Flory, Valley Falls and Mrs. Evelyn Hank, Nortonville; a son, Dr. Ira White, Sedalia, Mo.; a sister, Miss Stella White, Nortonville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Nortonville Christian Church. Burial will be at the Nortonville Cemetery.
Mr. White will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the services.
The family will receive friends at the O'Trimble Funeral Home in Nortonville from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nortonville Christian Church in memory of Mr. White.

Died In The West.
George Pilkington, of Atchison, Kan.,
informs the Record of the death at St.
Joseph, Mo.,of James William Whipple, an old
resident of Wilkes-Barre. Deceased, for many
years, worked for HC Frey and William
Dickover in Wilkes-Barre. For several years
he made his home in Parsons previous to
moving to St. Joseph, Mo., in 1878.
A St. Joseph paper says: "James W.
Whipple was born in Newport, Pa. on the 29th
day of May, 1827, and was a bricklayer and
miller by trade. He was a competant and
skilled mechanic in both branches, and at one
time in his younger days operated one of the
largest flour mills in Pennsylvania. He was
married in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Dec 2, 1852, to
Miss Caroline Santee of that city. Their
married life was a long and happy one, the
fruits of which were six children, three boys
and three girls: William O. Whipple, now in
Dallas, Texas; Walter S. Whipple, well known
in this city, he being in the mantle and tile
business for many years; Robert J. Whipple,
well known in railroad circles, having a run
as engineer on the old "Wabash" route; Mrs.
George Phillips of this city, and Misses
Lizzie O. and Lena M., unmarried and living
with their mother.
