Barber County Index, August 15, 1968. Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at Sunnyside Cemetery for John Stanley Garten, 45, of Ashland, who died early Saturday, August 3, at the Ashland District Hospital after suffering a heart attack.Graveside Services Held
He was a foreman on a ranch south of Ashland. He was born February 23, 1923, in Sun City. He was married to Dorothy A. Obenchain and lived in Belvidere the early part of his life. He moved to Ashland in 1949.
He is survived by his widow, a son, Jerry, and a daughter, Karen Elaine, all of the home; three brothers, Estel of Hewissa, Arkansas, Jack of Sharon, and Bob of South Dakota; a half brother, Earl Hamilton of Sun City; and four sisters, Mrs. Shirley Halley of Houston, Missouri, Mrs. Helen Obenchain of Limon, Colorado, Mrs. Esther Carter of Colorado Springs and Mrs. Ella Lou Steele of Strasborg, Colorado.

Graveside Services Held
Graveside services were held Monday afternoon, Feb. 26, at the Sunnyside Cemetery for Dorothy Garten Ward, 71, of Ashland, who died Feb. 22, 1990, at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Jan. 12, 1910, at Haviland, the daughter of Leonard and Bessie Obenchain. On Nov. 12, 1948, she married John Stanley Garten. He died in August of 1968. She then married Joe Edward Ward on June 1, 1973. He died October 5, 1988.
Survivors are a son, Jerry Garten of Liberal; a daughter, Karen Garten of McAlester, OK; a brother, Glenn Obenchain of Greensburg; a sister, Ester Miller of Greensburg and one grandson.
