Medicine Lodge people will be glad to know that Lieutenant Jesse Nixon was promoted in the closing days of the war. A Letter written to his mother, Mrs. E. H. Nixon, dated Nov. 2nd, states that he was commissioned a Captain October 1st. His promotion came as an unsolicited reward because of his great efficiency and personal merit, without the customary schooling in camp, which is a remarkable achievement in less than two years service. His previous military schooling in his early boyhood was, of course, a decisive factor in his favor.Captain Nixon, besides being commissioned as such, is also paymaster of his regiment which carries with it a handsome increase in salary.
The letter also states that on October 28th he met, for the first time during the war, his brother, Harry Nixon, who is a First Lieutenant in the Air Service. The brothers are stationed one hundred miles apart.
Another son, Willard, is also in France but arrived too late to get to the front. He is in the 49th, one of the divisions that is stated to return home soon. There are few families indeed that can show a war record equal to the Nixon's.
