Alexander Harris, father of Alexander Jr., and G. R. Harris, died at the home of the latter son seven miles southeast of this city on Monday, Feb. 1, 1909 at 7:30 A. M., at the ripe old age of 90 years. He had been feeble several weeks but his death came unexpectedly to all except the immediate relatives who were informed on the gravity of his sickness.Mr. Harris came to Barber county from Missouri a number of years ago to live with his sons, his wife having died before he came to Kansas. He was an excellent old gentleman successful in business in his day, and socially had a most likable personality. His death removes another honored citizen from among us and the grieving relatives have the sympathy of a large number of friends.
The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in this city yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. J. Hudson. Interment was in Highland cemetery.

Was a Noted Man.
The Kansas City Star, in noting the death of Alexander Harris, father of Alexander Harris jr., and Green Harris of this township, says:
"Alexander Harris, formerly of Jackson county, died last Monday at his home near Medicine Lodge, Kansas, and was buried in Highland cemetery at that place Tuesday. He was 90 years old. For two terms Mr. Harris was sheriff of Jackson county. He is survived by six children, two of whom live in this city. They are Mrs. R. M. Venable of 433 Gladstone Boulevard and Mrs. Eliza Blackwell of 2012 East Seventh street."
Jackson is the county of which Kansas City is the county seat. Few of Mr. Harris's friends here knew of his prominence while he lived in Missouri. He was a man who was not inclined to boast and never indulged in self-praise.
