For Those I Love
When my "Garden Gate" must close
And the lilly and the rose
Form a pillow for my head;
Let sweet memories linger here
For the ones I love most dear,
Like the evening shadows linger on the flowers.
Let this thought some to them then
As a sort of comfort, when
I have journeyed down the garden path;
"I'll leave the gate ajar."
So they'll seem a little nearer
So that heaven will seem the dearer -
I could not enjoy heaven,
It would seem to very far
Unless......
When I pass to that great Beyond
I could leave -
The gate ajar.-- Anna B. Strickland.
