Dan Axtell, 56, died Wednesday afternoon following a major operation at the local hospital. He had been in fairly good health until recently when he was stricken, and an operation was decided upon.Mr. Axtell had lived in Barber county practically all his life and was one of the well known and respected farmers of the Elm Creek valley.
His widow survives him. While funeral arrangements had not been completed as The Index went to press Wednesday afternoon, it was thought that services would be held Friday at the local Christian church.

by Jane MeaseDan Henry Axtell, oldest son of William and Florence Axtell, was born Dec. 5, 1879, at Watsaka, Illinois. He moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas, in 1889. One Christmas Day, 1900, he and Myrtle M. Warren, daughter of Robert C. Warren, were married. They spent all of their married life in the Amber Community. He was a well-known and respected farmer on Elm Creek.
Myrtle Minnie Axtell was the daughter of Robert and Hattie Warren. in 1898 she enrolled in Normal Institute. After her marriage to Dan, they resided on the farm in the Amber community. She was active in church and spent many years on the School Board and as a member of the Amber Club. They took their nephew, John Kimsey, into their house when he was six years old. Dan passed away in 1936 after a short illness. Myrtle and her nephew lived on the farm until Myrtle's death on October 25, 1968, at age 89.
Dan H. Axtell was the son of Florence Isabelle (Vennum) Axtell.
