David N. Morlan passed away at his home one mile southeast of this city at 8 o'clock Monday evening, February 8th. He had been a suffer with asthma and lung trouble many years. He tried different climates, but could not find no place where his suffering was more endurable than here. He returned here only a few weeks ago from New Mexico and Enid in worse condition than he was when he left which was last fall.The funeral arrangements had not been made when the Index was printed.
David N. Morlan was born in Park county, Indiana, Nov. 7, 1845, died at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, February 8, 1909 aged 63 years, 3 months and 1 day. He was married to Martha E. Packard in Iowa January 28, 1865 and eleven children were born to the union, nine of whom are living. During the Civil War he enlisted in Western Division Company B., 47th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry and served a year.
Mr. Morlan and family were among Barber county's earliest settlers. They came here in 1874 and have lived here most of the time since. His death removes a kind father and husband and a devoted Christian citizen who bore his afflictions uncomplainingly and who held the respect of his fellow citizens. Surely he has richly earned the eternal blessing to which he has been called.
