Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church for Mrs. Wm. Palmer, prominent church worker and club woman, who died January 4, at the Achenbach Memorial Hospital in Hardtner. The rites were in charge of Rev. M. C. Brooks and interment was in Highland cemetery.The obituary follows:
Della E. Moore was born near Bloomfield, Iowa, in August 25, 1861, and departed this life on January 4, 1944, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 10 days. She was the second child of William H. and Marilda A. Moore. Following the Civil War she came to Kansas with her parents, who settled near Caldwell later coming to Medicine Lodge, where her father was a pioneer doctor until his death in 1907. At an early age, she united with the Methodist church and remained a faithful and useful member during her long span of life, serving in many capacities on church boards and women's societies. She was a charter member and first secretary of Lorraine Chapter of the Eastern Star and a few years ago was made a life member of that body. About 1920, she organized a Mothers Club for the young mothers of the community and was made an honorary member of the organization. She also maintained membership in the American Legion Auxiliary and Community Club.
On May 23, 1889, she was united in marriage to William Palmer. To this union four children were born, Marjorie, Alma, Harry A., and Merriam. Marjorie and Merriam died in infancy, and Alma in 1935.
William and Della Palmer established a happy home in Medicine Lodge, where their children were taught Christian living. This home was maintained for more than fifty years. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on May 23, 1939, and on the 6th of August 1941, the home was broken by the passing of the father. She then moved to town and established a home of her own at 600 North Main Street, which she maintained at the time of her death. On October 8th, she left for a brief visit with her sister, Mrs. Daisy Rackley, at Alva, Oklahoma. While there she was stricken with a heart ailment and a few days later she was removed to the Achenbach Memorial Hospital at Hardtner, Kansas, where she passed away after a lingering illness of eleven weeks.
During her illness she maintained an attitude of cheerfulness which was a marvel to all with whom she came in contact, and though she knew that she could not recover and said she was ready to go at any time, she still kept he interest in life and continued to be thoughtful of the well being of others.
So we lose a devoted mother and helpful friend, who leaves behind her son and family, Gus, Agnes and Bill Palmer, of Medicine Lodge; her granddaughter, Margarita Lothrop, of Evanston, Illinois; and her two sisters, Mrs. Daisy M. Barkley, of Alva, Okla.; and Mrs. G. E. Stockstill of Loveland, Colorado.
