Edward Kimball died during the night Saturday or early Sunday morning at his home in Mingona township. Mrs. Kimball knew nothing of his death until she awoke Sunday morning and found her husband cold in death by her side. Word was immediately dispatched to the city and Dr. Coleman went to the home and performed an autopsy on the body and found the trouble to be heart failure. Mr. Kimball died apparently without a struggle.A friend contributes the following obituary:
Edward Kimball was born at Austin, Texas, August 25th, 1863. At the early age of three years he removed to Blue Springs, Missouri where he resided until about eleven years of age when he came to Barber county, Kansas and with the exception of eight or nine years when he resided in the state of Washington, has lived in Barber county continuously since until some time during the night of the 19th inst., (the hour will never be known) without a moment's warning he was called to his eternal home.
While in the state of Washington, Mr. Kimball united with the M. E. church and lived in that faith to the time of his death, although he never transferred his membership to this place. He also united with the I. O. O. F. during his sojourn in Washington and later transferred his membership to this place, and was an enthusiastic and honored member of Pioneer Lodge, No. 179 at the time of his death. April 11, 1898 he was united in marriage to Kate Arterburn. To this union were born three children, all boys, aged respectively, 9, 6, and 4, who with their mother mourn the loss of a kind father and loving husband.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church of this city Monday afternoon under the auspices of Pioneer Lodge No. 179, I. O. O. F. Rev. W. H. Moore preached the funeral sermon. Aside from Mrs. A. J. Hargis of Wichita, a sister of the deceased, none of the relatives were present at the funeral.
