Elizabeth Russel Robinson was born Jan. 31, 1853, in Hancock county, Ill. and died March 14, 1944, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blaine Jones of Medicine Lodge, Kansas.She was married to E. M. Johnson in 1872, and to this union eight children were born, four of whom survive her.
The family moved in 1883 to Oswego, Kansas and it was there she lost her companion in 1892.
She met the necessity of rearing a family and make a living by personally managing and operating a 130 acre farm. In 1900 with her three youngest children she came to Barber county that she might be near and care for her aged parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Major Robinson of Isabel. In 1904 she took up her residence in Medicine Lodge where she has lived continuously except for short periods of time in Texas and North Carolina. For 20 years she followed the profession of nursing and there were few homes in the vicinity that did not experience her careful administration.
Her great love for music made her always interested in the vocal endeavors of her children and her grandchildren.
After she was 90 years old she sang a solo at a gathering of neighbors and friends. Three of her grandchildren, Mrs. Verda McGill, Ernest Morgan and Cpl. Keith Axline furnished the music for her funeral.
Early in life she united with the Christian church, later accepting the faith of the Seventh Day Adventists with whom she was an active member until her death.
Outstanding among the activities of a long and useful life was the cultivating of beautiful flowers and she always found room in her yard for the many plants, seeds and shrubs offered her by friends who knew her love her them.
Those of her children preceding her in death are Earl in 18__, Walter in 1898, Blanche, 1923 and Dottie, 1935.
Surviving are Mrs. Alice Morgan, Arma, Kans., Mrs. Lydia Shroyer, Urbana, Ill., Mrs. Esther Jones, Medicine Lodge and Clay Johnson, Bremmerton, Wash., 23 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
