Ester May Carter, 87, of Livingston, Montana, died at her home Saturday morning, February 9, 2008. Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory. A celebration of her life was held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Main and Summit, in Livingston with Pastor Pete Hofer officiating. Funeral is Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Baptist Church, Sun City, KS, with Rev. Jeff Woods presiding. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City, Kansas.Ester was born May 30, 1920 to Stanley and Myrtle (Whitaker) Garten in Sun City, Kansas. On July 19, 1941, she married Clarence "Hoss" Leroy Carter in Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
They made their home in Kansas, Colorado, and after retirement in Montana.
Ester worked many years driving a school bus in Colorado and working as a bakery chef for many restaurants and school districts.
When they retired, Ester and Hoss enjoyed traveling to many places in their RV and meeting many fine people from all walks of life. They never knew a stranger and loved visiting and keeping in touch with the people they met throughout their life. Ester was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Livingston.
After settling in Montana to be closer to family, Ester did volunteer work and was a caregiver for the elderly up until the time of her death. One of her greatest joys was her family. Her great-grandchildren loved sitting on her lap and being close to her. In the early years, one of her favorite pastimes was riding her horse with Hoss checking cows in Kansas and exploring the mountains of Colorado.
Ester’s survivors include two sons, Terry Carter (Lori) of Livingston, Ron Carter (Jo) of Vaughn, MT and a sister Helen Obenchain of Denver, CO. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Samantha Booth (Mark) and family of Livingston, Tressa Blair (Aaron) and family of White Sulphur Springs, MT, Jessica Tyner (Jake) and sons of Emigrant, MT, Cadee Gordon and sons of Fort Shaw, MT, and Lee Carter (Lauren) and son of Power, MT. Her 10 very special great-grandchildren also survive her. Her parents, husband, one infant son, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Franzen-Davis Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
