Felix Relf died at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Owen in this city on Thursday, Dec. 31, 1903, at the advanced age of 85 years. He was bedfast for some months with an attack of paralysis brought about by falling from steps at his home in Mingona township. On account of not receiving proper care at his home Mr. and Mrs. Relf both were brought to town and cared for at Mr. Owen's home. For a time Mr. Relf seemed to improve but it was only temporary. He was too old a man to sustain an injury of that nature.Funeral services were held on Friday and the remains interred in Highland cemetery. All of his close neighbors in Mingona township attended the funeral, this showing their respect and esteem for a venerable old gentleman and an excellent neighbor. Elder A. O. Walker, pastor of the Christian church, preached the funeral.
Mr. Relf was a native of Switzerland. He was born in November, 1818. He came to America when he was a young man and from the time he set foot on American soil he has been an honorable and valuable American citizen. He came to Barber county from Iowa, nearly twenty three years ago and has always been a citizen whom everybody honored, and a benefit to the community.
His only survivor is Mrs. Anna Relf, his wife. She is 82 years of age. John Relf, who resides on the homestead, is her son by her first marriage.
Mrs. Relf requests the Index to express thanks on her behalf to the friends and neighbors who so kindly cared for her husband and herself during their sickness and distress. She appreciates the assistance and good will of those good friends very highly.
The Index extends sympathy to her in the parting of her companion.
