ISAAC BAYLIFFE ACCIDENTALLY SHOT

Isaac Bayliffe, 14 year old son of Mrs. Ida Bayliffe, suffered a gunshot wound in the thigh when a double barrel shotgun in the hands of Bobby Angell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Angell, was accidentally discharged. Shot from both barrels of the gun entered the fleshy part of the thigh from the front, tearing a ragged hole through muscle and flesh, but missing the bone and artery. Isaac was taken immediately to the Medicine Lodge hospital by Dr. Kenneth R. Grigsby where he was given medical attention, and where it was said Tuesday afternoon that his chances for recovery were good if complications did not arise.

The accident occurred in or near the back yard at the Royal McShea residence on North Main street where a group of boys had gathered to play last Thursday morning.

Local officers brought action in juvenile court soon after the accident, to have Bobby Angell adjudged a delinquent and neglected child, and a hearing was held on Wednesday morning of this week before Probate Judge John C. Hilkey under whose jurisdiction the case came. Joe Rodgers of Wichita was attorney for the parents and Bobby and J. Lester Orr county attorney, prosecuted the case. Evidence presented concerning the accidental shooting and other delinquencies of the boy, caused Judge Hilkey to sentence Bobby to the Boys Industrial school in Topeka, However a stay of execution of the sentence was granted until district court convenes. In the meantime Bobby is to remain under the supervision of the sheriff.
