Joseph Henry Brittain was born near St. Joseph, Missouri January 7, 1864, and departed this life at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, February 6, 1939, at the age of 75 years and 30 days.When he was a boy in his teens he came to Alton, Osborn county, Kansas with his parents. He was united in marriage to Atha Dell Keith December 29, 1887. To this union four children were born: Jesse E. of Medicine Lodge, Harvey Earnest of Eugene, Oregon, Lee E. of Parsons, Kansas, and Bertha Cheney of Wichita, Kansas.
In 1899 he and his wife moved to a cattle ranch near Moscow, Oklahoma, where he was living at the time of his wife's death, April 16, 1916.
He moved to Neosho county, Kansas in 1919 where he was living at the time of his marriage to Mary A. Pulley January 3, 1921. He came to Barber county in 1922 where he resided until his death.
He united with the United Brethren church in his boyhood and remained a member of that church until he came to Medicine Lodge. Here he united with the First Christian church and became a loyal and faithful member.
He will be remembered as a good husband and father and a beloved friend of all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four children, brother Harve of Los Angeles, Calif., sister Rebecca Wilson, Piersons, Iowa, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at the Forsyth Funeral Home Friday morning, February 10, at 10:30, after which he will be taken to Oklahoma for interment at the Moscow cemetery. Rev. R. C. Scott will officiate at both ceremonies.
