Jessie Lorraine Warren passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Coffey Co. Hospital in Burlington, Kansas. She was 90 years old.She was born October 1, 1917, in Coldwater, Kansas. Jessie's grandparents were encouraged to move from Oklahoma to Kansas by Carrie Nation.
Jessie's early childhood years were spent in Lake City and Sun City, Kansas, where her father managed Metz Lumber Yards. They later moved to Medicine Lodge, where Jessie attended school and graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1935.
On September 2, 1939, she married Ned Warren in Alva, Oklahoma. During World War II, Ned was stationed in Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Jessie worked as a cashier at the air base. During his time overseas, she worked for her Aunt Rose Murphy at the Betty Rose Dress Shop in Medicine Lodge. The majority of her life was spent as a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family, attending her children's activities, and helping with the care of her grandchildren.
Jessie was a member of the First Christian Church of Medicine Lodge, and she was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. She thoroughly enjoyed her years in the Self Culture Club. When she was younger, she was a member of Mother's Club, Junior Mother's Club, and the VFW Auxiliary, a Brownie Scout leader and Room Mother numerous times.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ned Warren; her parents, Joseph D. and Pearl E. Murphy, and her brother, Dean Murphy.
Survivors include a son, Robert D. Warren and his wife, Dru, of Hollister, California; a daughter, Jolene Stubby and her husband, Harold, of Burlington, Kansas; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Jessie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her favorite Bible verse was "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer." She practiced this verse throughout her life, and will be missed by many.
