J.W. "Jim" McCullough, 83, died June 28, 1999, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge.He was born October 13, 1915, at Joy Coy, Colorado, the son of Moody and Fanny (Kendall) McCullough. A Medicine Lodge resident since 1931, moving from Joy Coy, Colorado, he was a farmer and rancher.
He belonged to the Kansas Farm Bureau, the Barber County Cattlemen's Association, Kansas Wheat Growers Association and the Kansas Livestock Association; served on the Barber County Fair Board, was a Sawyer Co-op Board member and a 4-H tractor safety leader, and was chairman of ASCS and a past president of the Saddle and Roping Club.
On January 15, 1938, he married Marian Clair Lukens at Medicine Lodge. She died April 24, 1997.
Survivors include: three sons, Stan L., Lamar, Colorado, Jimmie Dean and Pat G., both of Medicine Lodge; a daughter, Marilyn Sue Smith, Galva; a brother, Tom, Wichita; a sister, Viola Shaw, Inman; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Jack; a grandson, Mikeal Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Billie Smith, and Kassie and Katie Thomas.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 2, 1999, at Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
