Joel D. Ziemer, 86, died April 17, 1997 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge.He was born Oct. 10, 1910, at Yale, Okla., the son of John and Evelyn (Cline) Ziemer. A resident of Medicine Lodge since 1951, moving from Hutchinson, he was a retired Medicine Lodge police chief, serving from 1961 to 1978.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Medicine Lodge and Kansas Peace Officers Association.
On Sept. 7, 1940, he married Carolina A.M. Peil at Woodward, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Kathryn Joan Alberding, Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Herman Ziemer, Fullerton, Calif.; and a grandson, Michael Aberding, Albuquerque, N.M.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 21, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Paul Beyer presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
