Julia Gertrude Quinby, daughter of William Jasper and Katherine Kirkpatrick White was born in Butler, Missouri, February 4, 1879. Her childhood was spent in Adams county, Illinois. She later lived near Wheeling, Missouri and Chillicothe, Missouri. She was educated in the public schools of Illinois and Missouri and at the Chillicothe Normal College.She was united in marriage to Arthur Isiah Quinby October 7, 1906. To this union were born three children, Pauline (Mrs. Howard Bobbitt of Pratt, Kansas); Byron, Manhattan, Kansas; and Stanley, of Sun City. Mr. and Mrs. Quinby lived in and near Chillicothe, Missouri for several years, moving later to Haviland, Kansas, and from there to Greensburg, Kansas. They moved to Sun City in 1921. Mrs. Quinby passed away November 21, 1936. Mrs. Quinby departed this life Wednesday, February 1, at Pratt hospital at 5:15 p.m.
Besides the surviving children are three grandchildren, Jackie Kaylene Quinby, Kenneth Eugene Bobbitt and Howard Madison Bobbitt, Jr. Also a sister, Mrs. Jasper Mahurin of Walnut, Kansas and a brother, Rev. Gay C. White of Springfield, Illinois.
Mrs. Quinby was a member of the Sun City Baptist church, the Sun City Wednesday Afternoon Club and the Farm Bureau. She was for many years a very successful town and rural school teacher. She was a consecrated Christian, a beautiful character and a splendid neighbor.
Her home life was unusually happy. She lived for her children and grand children. Her son-in-law and daughter-in-law unite with her three children and other relatives and a host of friends in Sun City and wherever she has lived in paying tribute to her Christian life and character.
Gertrude Quinby was and is an evidence of the eternal power and value of the Christian life. Her influence will continue forever. In all the sorrow and loneliness of her relatives they know that she is on the sweet fellowship of her Redeemer and the dear ones who have gone on before.
