Margaret Manson was born in Dawn county, Scotland May 27, 1841, died at her home in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, January 23rd, 1909. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Sunday. Rev. W. H. Moore and Rev. H. C. Duckett conducted the services. A large crowd was in attendance and many tributes of respect were paid to the deceased.A large number of former friends and neighbors were present from Lake City to attend the services and to offer sympathy to the bereft and to show respect for the deceased. Those present were: Grant Shigley, his wife and his daughter, John Campbell and wife, Fred Lake and wife, Scott Buck, Mrs. Reuben Lake, Mrs. Riley Lake, Mrs. F. L. Gordon, also James Skinner and wife from Coats.
At the age of seven years she came with her mother, three brothers and one sister to America and settled in the state of Wisconsin near Madison. Here at the age of 20 years she was united in marriage to George T. Anderson. In 1879 they moved to the state of Kansas and have since resided in the state and in 1902 they came to Barber county and settled in Lake City and lived there until last July when they came to this city on account of Mr. Anderson's health. She had been sorely afflicted for many years and suffered much during the last seven months of her life.
She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church and was true to faith until the hour of her death, although not a member of the church here.
The deceased was the mother of five children, only two of which survive her; Charles H. Anderson living at present in Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. H. W. Skinner of this city.
Mrs. Anderson was a lady of sterling character. She possessed the fortitude and faith which are typical of her nationality. And with her passing we lose a good woman, but one who has made her contribution to the welfare of society in her day and generation.
