Mary Calhoun Septer, 69 years, 7 months and 27 days of age, died suddenly at the home of her son, Harley Septer near Belvidere, Sunday evening, Feb. 27, 1944. She had spent the winter in Barber county, Kansas, at the homes of her children.Mary Calhoun was born June 30, 1874, in Adrian county, Mo. In her early childhood she moved to Henry County, Iowa, near Mt. Pleasant. She was married to Daniel Septer December 22, 1893.
They moved to Oklahoma at the time of the opening of the Oklahoma territory. Two years later they moved to Kiowa, Kansas, living there only a short time moving then to near Sun City. In the fall of 1923 they moved back to Iowa locating near Salem.
Mr. Septer died in Iowa in November, 1926.
She was a regular attendant of the Methodist church and was a strong believer living her life by the Golden Rule.
She leaves to mourn her passing eight children; Walter of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Frank and Harvey of Wichita, Harley of Belvidere, Nancy Phillips of Lake City, Neva Calhoon of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Aelzine Calhoun of near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren, two of whom are in the armed forces, Pvt. Ivan Phillips of Amarillo, Texas and Sgt. Boyd Phillips of Fort Jackson, S. C.; also one brother, Will Calhoun of New London, Iowa and one sister Mrs. Everett Vincent of May Wood, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews who were very dear to her. She also leaves a host of friends both on Barber county and in Iowa.

Beckoning with an outstretched hand.
In the home your place is vacant,
And your voice no more we'll hear,
But the memory of your presence
in our hearts we'll hold most dear.
Suddenly, out from among us,
Did the savior call you home.
Where there is no pain or sorrow
In that land of peace to roam.
Though the parting brings such sadness.
And to all our hearts despair,
We feel that heaven is nearer
When you are waiting there.
So the meeting will be happier,
When your loved ones you shall see;
May we all be there together
in the bright eternity.
